Smudging at Regina Public Schools

Regina Public Schools recognizes, supports and celebrates student and staff diversity in all schools and workplaces.  Honouring the Shared Values and promoting a welcoming environment of belonging means that the school division is actively creating a culture of accommodation in all of its practices, procedures and policies.

Regina Public Schools' Indigenous students, staff and community engage in a variety of traditional ceremonies that may include smudging and pipe ceremonies.  These ceremonies may include the use of sage, sweet grass, cedar and tobacco.

Smudging and the use of tobacco and other traditional Indigenous medicinal plants in ceremonies is a recognized practice and permitted in approved spaces on school division premises.
