A message from our Parent Council

Hello Hanna families!  To say this year has been different is an understatement but thanks to the very hard work of our Hanna staff things seem to be running smoothly.  A BIG thank you goes out to each and every one of our school staff, we see and appreciate all the work that is being done!  Things are a bit different with the HSCC as well.  We are unable to hold our annual raffle this year because of restrictions regarding school use and the collection of money.  The money raised during our raffle is used to fund school programs and equipment throughout the year.  You may not be aware that the HSCC funds the Mathletics program, purchases new school equipment such as the new team uniforms and mats for the gymnasium and tries to fund as many teacher requests as possible throughout the year.  SLGA grant money earned from the sale of raffle tickets goes into our playground fund that will pay for upgrades on the senior side of the playground.

That being said, we will still have these bills to pay and are looking into ways to earn a bit through the year.  The HSCC has a Drop and Go account set up at the Rochdale location of SARCAN.  If you would like to drop of your recycling and donate the proceeds to the Dr. Hanna School Community Council, please enter in the school phone number (306-791-8594) into the account login, it may also ask for the group phrase “PLAYGROUND”.  That’s all there is to it and funds will be directed to the HSCC.  Every little bit helps!

I also want to send a quick update on the playground.  Regina Public Schools has been out to assess the damage and the good news is that the majority of the structure is ok, that being said there are several pieces that will need replacing in addition to the fall protection being replaced.  These repairs will be handled by Regina Public Schools and it seems that no cost will be transferred to the HSCC.  We are very thankful for this.  The Go Fund Me that was set up in support of the playground will remain active for the time being just to be sure there are no incidental costs that will need to be handled.  Once we are sure that there will be no extra costs we will be able to cancel the Go Fund Me and donations will be returned.  This will be a slow process and the winter weather does not help things along but the news is good overall.  The school and HSCC have received many emails and call over the last few weeks and we need to say a HUGE thankyou to the community for stepping up once again.

The HSCC will not be holding regular monthly meetings at this time but will be posting future meeting dates to the HSCC Facebook page.  All are welcome to attend and meetings will continue to be held via Zoom.
